Thank you for your interest in becoming Chief Executive of Gedling Borough Council. We believe that we already have a good reputation as a progressive, motivated and community-focused council. But I would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about some of the factors behind our success and our future plans.

You will see from our Gedling Plan that the idea of “Serving People, Improving Lives” is at the centre of everything that we do. This encapsulates our vision, our sense of purpose and the goals that we set ourselves. You can find out more about that vision and those goals as you browse through this site.

What’s important here is that you understand what leading a council like ours means for a Chief Executive. For me, this is not the same as leading a council where the emphasis is purely on meeting our obligations. We believe in putting our communities first, being active in understanding their needs and embracing every opportunity to make a difference. It’s not about setting parameters on what we should do. It’s about growing, evolving, continuously improving and always exploring what else we can achieve for the people who live, work and visit here.

Being the ambitious council that we are creates a culture too. We’re facing similar challenges to other councils: reducing spending, maintaining services, increasing demand. But we’re can-do and creative, positive about change and passionate about our future.

We want a Chief Executive who shares our drive, optimism and energy – and, yes, our ambition. Good luck with your application.
